This is a painting from Edgar Decas, I'm pretty sure you had heard of him or at least saw one of his artwork before because he is a very famous artist.
The painting i chose is called "The dance class".
Most of his paintings are based on girls dancing or practicing ballet, they could be in stage, in a rehearsal, etc.
The movement of the artwork goes direct to the instructor, who is watching the girls dance. Degas emphasis on the old man and painted his suite dark grey to contrast with the with tutu that the dancers are wearing. I believe that the main point of attraction in the painting is the girl with the red flower on her hair, Degas painted her closely, and she has more details on, as you can see, he used red and green to contrast the white. She even is wearing pink shoe while the rest of the girls has white ones.
When i see this painting, i think that the old man is teaching the girls ballet, and they are practing for a play. But the girls look tired after a couple of hours of dancing, what makes me think that is because you can see one of them is holding a fan, another one looks like she is trying to reach her back like she was tired, also in the back there are girls sitting down resting.

Patricia,
Ithink in your description of visual elements, you might want to include teh strong use of lines and their effect. Look at the diagonal lines of the dancers, the staright lines of walls and instructors' stick and the lines in the floor.
